Glossy Box Review August 2013

So I just received my first Glossy Box- and I’m a little confused, because I signed up at the end of August- assuming I would get September. So I’m not sure if Glossy Box ships very late, or if I just got it late because of the time I signed up.

But here it is, and man, is she beautiful! (yes, she’s a she, it’s a make-up subscription box, after all).

Glossy box is a monthly subscription box that has deluxe and full-size products.

The Cost: $21 a month (you can save more with 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription)

Promo code: there’s no promo code on this one, but if you go through Ebates, you can save $2.75, and get a free $10 Target gift card, making your first month close to free. Click here to go to Ebates first, then sign up and search Glossybox! And even if makeup isn’t your thing, or you’re a dude, check out Ebates for a second anyway! You get paid extra to buy the things you already buy on the internet!

If you already have Ebates, you can click here to check out Glossybox:

This month’s Last months? theme was “Bohemian summer” Here’s what’s in the box:

The first item is “Jelly Pong Pong” lip blush. ($18)

When I saw this, all I could think of was:

ImageBright pink lip stain might be Nicki’s thing, but it is soooooo not my thing. I gave it a try anyway, and with a bit of blotting, its not too bad. I wish I received the red stain that some people did, but the pink is not horrible. I tried to take a pic, but let’s just say, I’m not a beauty blogger. Anyone want to model lip stain?

The next item was a Model Co. eyeshadow Duo in Bronzed Goddess ($25.00)

ImageI love the neutral colors, but it came to me a little broken up. I’m still deciding if I should contact Glossybox to get a replacement, since it made a small mess all over the inside of the box. What do you guys think?

It’s not too bad, but the worse thing ever to me is broken powder. Because one day when you’re least expecting it, the whole thing explodes and makes a mess everywhere!

Here’s what the colors look like:

Next in the box was Anatomicals “Spray Misty for Me” facial spray. ($9)

I’m a little confused about facial spray. I just don’t get it. Does anyone use facial spray? Does it work well for you?

Also, it had a smell that I was just not expecting. Not a bad smell, just an unexpected one. I’ll probably end up throwing this in the beach-bag. We live right by a lake and go all the time, so maybe I can use this for when we go.

Next in the box was Novex Brazilian Keratin Hair Care Treatment ($4.99)

I loved this! I used it in the shower yesterday, left it on for 3 minutes, and my hair still feels amazing!

The last Full-sized item was Sue Devitt Triple C-Weed Pressed Powder ($28.00)

I wish this powder was just one shade darker, but It will work just fine in the winter. This powder is supposed to even out skin tone, set makeup and control shine. I tried it on in the house, and it’s a really nice powder, I just can’t wait to wear it in the winter!

Finally, there was a little surprise in the bottom of the box:

A Guess makeup bag and Guess coupon! The coupon expired the day after I got the box, which is kind of a bummer, but I can’t remember the last time I was in Guess. But man, does this little makeup bag take me back to the early 2000’s. I saved for my Guess jean jacket for like a month!

My Thoughts: This box had a value of nearly $70 – which is awesome! And I love that every item was full-sized with lots of makeup products, instead of just smaller samples like a lot of other makeup subscription boxes send. And the presentation and packaging is the best I have seen (minus the broken eyeshadow) I’m impressed so far- but what do you guys think of the box?

If you’re interested in signing up for Glossybox, make sure you do Ebates first here,

  1. My eye shadow was DESTROYED, and it was literally covering everything in the box. I did call & they apologized and shipped out another. It takes forever to get my boxes. Like, a month from when they send the email. Even the replacement box she said she was shipping fed ex took weeks to get. (And she had quoted a couple days) I love the jelly pong pong lip stain & get lots of compliments. (I already wear MAC’s Nikki minage lip color so it’s pretty similar- although it has a tinge of purple. It’s flattering with my coloring though so I’m happy:) it’s like a pretty Chapstick. I just did the keratin treatment today and my hair is super soft, smooth & silky! And it’s not expensive to purchase. I am definitely going to get it again. Disappointing about the eye shadow, the new box they sent had a nail polish instead. It’s fine, but a much smaller value. So far I’m mostly disappointed with how long the boxes take to ship. Besides that, customer service is good:)

    • My eyeshadow is now completely destroyed as well, not even useable 😦 And I can’t agree more with you! Their shipping is ridiculous! Luckily the value is worth the wait always, so I wait but it still drives me crazy waiting so long 😦 That’s a bummer it had the nail polish instead. I did notice from a few other reviews that other people were getting that instead of the shadow. Nicki Minaj has a MAC line? I’ll have to check that out! And thanks for stopping by and commenting πŸ™‚
